A centaur: half man, half horse. Warriors from ancient Greece, always caught between two worlds: that of civilized men and that of beasts.
I decided to do this manip because I could not find one single decent centaur picture anywhere on DA. Just search for one, you won't find anything that really looks good - just a lot of bad attempts. So it was up to me to create the definite centaur pic. Of course I'm not satisfied with the end result, but perhaps you disagree with me on that.
This really was a practice in adding stuff to backgrounds and making it look real, and a practice in merging two different pieces of beings into one. That last part worked out just fine, I think, it's the first part - making the centaur as if he's really there in that forest - I'm not too happy with.
The centaur itself looks great. Some things I noticed about the background are there is no evidence that the centaur is moving through the environment (a horse moving at this speed would be kicking up some dust and leaving a trail) and if the lighting were hitting his left side, his shadow would be pointing more to the left in this picture. I hope you find this helpful.

Sure do. Dust and a trail hadn't even come to mind yet, so that's a helpful one. And I might change the shadows a bit (if that's still possible). Thanks, glad you like it.
yep. i think at first glance he definetly looks amazing. he looks like he is really in the forest. after a moment or so i realized that his body is really amazing. than i realized thatthose wimpy front legs of the horse would have a hard time keeping him up don't you think>? i particularly like the part of him where his croch turns into thehorses breast
Great! I'm busy with centaurs for exactly the same reason, but with completely different results. So it's really nice to see somebody has done something alike Yours is better then mine are, I think..
One little thing... his upper body (the human part) seems less 'in the forest' then the horsepart.. Maybe because the contrast of the dark surroundings and the kinda light human body is a bit big. Nonetheless, I really admire this piece of work!

Thank you very much. I agree, it's still visible that the upper part is a studio photo and the other part came from an outside picture. It's very hard to change that in a realistic way, I'm sure you've had that experience yourself. Indoor light is different than outdoor light - it's cruel, but true. That's why the horse itself blends into the forest much better.
